Zonte’s Footstep Love Symbol Grenache 2019

Reviewed November 18, 2022

This wine may be Australian but the winemaker and owner of Zonte’s Footstep is originally from Calgary. His name is Brad Rey and he is a great storyteller with a big personality.

His story is one where Canadian boy meets Australian girl and takes a leap of faith and moves to Australia! Having caught the wine bug while working in Calgary, Brad decided to study oenology at Charles Sturt University in New South Wales. He now lives in the McLaren Vale. Brad likes to make wine that puts a smile on someone’s face. I appreciate that his attention to detail extends both in and on the bottle. Most of the Zonte’s Footstep wines have cool pen and ink artwork by artist Bianca Smith of Adelaide. I own a 1986 VW Westphalia van so the label on the Love Symbol Grenache really appeals to me.

Colour - medium ruby red
Nose – red fruits = cherries, wild raspberry, strawberry, black pepper
Palate – silky smooth with medium tannins . Lots of juicy raspberry, black cherry and even some black tea. It is nicely balanced.

Region - McLaren Vale, Australia
