Flat Rock Cellars Twisted White 2019

Reviewed on September 2, 2022

I am stoked that I am squeezing the Flat Rock Cellars Twisted White 2019 just under the wire because it is a classic summer sipper. A blend of 80% Riesling, 10% Gewurztraminer and 10% Chardonnay. It is a crowd pleaser with aromas and flavours of lime, green apple, flint and lychee. It is a wine that pairs with a wide spectrum of foods from sushi, to pub grub to grilled veggies!

The winery is located on top of the Twenty Mile Bench on the Niagara Escarpment, southeast of the village of Jordan. I was there about 10 years ago and remember the fantastic view of the Toronto skyline from their tasting room. The Niagara Peninsula is the largest & most famous of all the wine regions in Ontario. It borders Lake Ontario to the north, the Niagara River on the east (which flows over the Niagara Escarpment to become Niagara Falls), the Welland River and Hamilton to the south & west. The consulting winemaker is Dave Sheppard, he was the head winemaker at Flat Rock until this year when he passed the torch over to Allison Finlay. In 2021 Dave Sheppard was named Ontario winemaker of the year.
